The Candy Apple News Company

I get emails from time to time either asking about this show or mentioning vague recollections of this show.  I, too, am still hoping a lead comes in from somebody who was involved, at one time, with Candy Apple News Company so that we can do something similar for it that we've got going for Starstuff.  The fact that I still remember it with clarity after two decades says a thing or two about it!

Here is EVERYTHING that I remember and have gathered from others so far.  There is no guarantee that there is any accuracy to any of the following:

The show was called "The Candy Apple News Company" and it was set in a newspaper room in the Yukon.  It starred Matt Robinson (pre-Sesame Street) who played "Rick" and Mary Margaret Myers (an ABC AM radio DJ) who played "C.B."  They were the only humans.  The other characters were puppets.

There was:

Sparks O'Sullivan, who ran a HAM radio
Boris Bat, who hung upside down and did children's book reviews
Morgan Mole, who lived in a flower box outside the window
An old-fashioned dome-shaped wooden Philco radio with a mouth that was the show's narrator/announcer/commercial-breaker
And perhaps others...?

Every week, Matt Robinson's character would dress up as a Canadian Mountie as "Rick of the Mounties," and he'd bring his pal, "Yukon Thing," which was somebody dressed as a giant Yeti or snow monster. They would give you tips like "Don't talk to strangers" and "Look both ways before crossing the street."  Each episode also included an educational segment from the children's news show, "Kidsworld."

There were similarities to Starstuff. Mark Ritts was the puppeteer for both Starstuff as well as The Candy Apple News Company.  Both shows shared segments from Kidsworld.  They were both televised during the exact same time period on WCAU.  The Candy Apple News Company either took over Starstuff's timeslot at different times of the year or would air right after Starstuff.  I still can't get this right.  From what I personally remember, Starstuff came on at 6:00am EST and The Candy Apple News Company came on at 7:00am EST.  Both shows were run for several years as repeats, so I have a feeling that different readers are going to have different memories in regards to timeslots.

I've been unsuccessful in finding any images or videos of this show anywhere.

I'm hoping this changes!  You can email me here with any information you may have.
